EternalCon – Panels and Attendees
Posted by buddyscalera on July 21, 2021 at 5:55 amWe’ve been invited to host panels at the Eternal Con:
If you would like to help with the panels, please let me know. I will get you a pass to the show.
Please reply here. Even if you replied on email, please reply here, so we can get the conversation going.
Also, anyone interested in being on a panel should note what days you plan to attend:
Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a combination of those days.
Thanks!

I can only attend Sunday. As per our previous conversation, I’m putting together a Character Creation panel with Cathy. We will have a roundtable discussion on characterization with Kris, Dennis Knight, Sam Vera (catch the Craze), and Alex Sapountzis, and then an interactive workshop where we create an original character based on audience feedback, with the two artists sketching out a rough design as we go.
-
I can help on Saturday 😁 Let’s get back to the cons 😃😃
-
Here is the draft text of my proposed panel:
Title: Origin Story: An interactive character workshop in character creation
Moderators: Cathy Kirch (Columbia University; My Writing Hero; Online Center for ADHD Writers) and A. A. Rubin (Comic Book School).
Panelists: Kris Burgos (Tales Beyond), Dennis Knight (Pronto Comics), Alexander Sapountzis (Wayward Raven), and Sam Vera (Catch Da Craze).
Description: Join us for a roundtable conversation about how to create compelling characters from both the writer’s and artist’s perspective, followed by an interactive workshop where our panel will create an original character–on-the-spot–based on our discussion and suggestions from the audience. Learn the elements of effective characterization and try to stump our all-star panel.

Thanks for putting this together, Ari!
Small correction: in my affiliations, it’s just Columbia University and My Writing Hero (online writing center for ADHD writers is just a description of what my company is)
Looking forward!

I also think it would be great to have some sort of creator connection.
-
I’m available and planning on both Saturday and Sunday! If I can get a +1, we can have another hand for helping around.

Thank you @buddyscalera , fingers crossed they approve.

Great news. Our panels (listed above in this thread) have all been approved. Anyone who is on a panel will have a pass waiting at the door.
Panelists and Helpers will have passes waiting for them at the door. You can attend both days, even if your panel is only on one day. If you want to be a Helper (and haven’t told me already), please let us know here in this thread.
Since many of you are from the area, I suggest you coordinate rides. I am unable to rideshare at this time, since I have family in the area, so it is likely to be a dual-purpose trip for me.
Also, we are also coordinating a live chat for this Tuesday evening with the show organizer. We will discuss our panels with him at that time.

Great news, indeed!
Would anyone like to coordinate rides? I don’t have a car but would happily pitch in for gas. I’ve also traveled to Hofstra by train (with a shuttle that takes us from the station to campus) and would be down to meet up on the train as well.
Train info here: https://www.hofstra.edu/visitors/public-transportation.html, shuttle info here: https://www.hofstra.edu/public-safety/transportation.html.

Do we have art for sharing on social? Either CBS branded art, or just Eternal Con art would do.
-
Good question @thesurrealari – Right now, this is the art for tonight’s chat. We may need to create some art for our panels.
-
What time is tonights chat?
-
Hi @maryamsmarkers – Tonight’s chat is 8:30 – 9:30 PM.
-
okay thanks. see you soon. I can plug the event for tonight into my arts meetup (https://www.meetup.com/PhillyArtsocial/ ) – if you’d like. Is there a certain youtube link to share? If so, let me know and I’ll share out.

@ASAP asked if he can bring prints to sell at the table. I know we Ok’d books, but I’d figured I’d ask about prints since that wasn’t explicitly discussed. He said he could bring mini-prints if space was an issue.
-
Short answer: Yes.
Caveat: We will not display anything that features any licensed characters (e.g., Marvel, DC, Disney, etc.).
Long answer: We will have limited space at our table. We will just need to figure out how to display people’s work.
Note: If anyone has a “backwall” display, that may be helpful.
-
Awesome, we can bring prints, thanks for that. I’ll just bring some 4×6 inch sized images – maybe just 3/4, to give out or sale for $1/$5. small enough, not take too much space & business cards.

Do we know if we will have access to a computer/projector for our panels?
-
Also, do we know our booth number? We need that to promote.
-
I will try to find out some details this week, @thesurrealari – The last two times I presented at EternalCon there were no projectors. That said, this is a completely different venue, so I don’t know.
Booth number? Don’t have one yet.
-
-
Thank you @buddyscalera .
I am trying to figure out if I should make slides.
If we do not have a projector, can we request a white board?
-
Make a few slides, if it will help you. I will ask for a white pad or white board and the projector.
But, like any event, even if they say something will be provided, it still may not be there when you need it. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.
-
@thesurrealari it might be a good idea to make cue cards – that qr code idea you suggested last week – maybe the attendees can gain access to the presentation using the qr code – add an “opt-in” feature so you can collect contact detail – email and phone numbers.
-
-
I’m so excited for Saturday 😄😄
-
I”m excited too. Can’t wait for Saturday to get here…

Saw this online: https://blogs.constantcontact.com/event-marketing-strategies/?fbclid=IwAR3Tcw9opK31_UnyUWwII0xchfa7eIlAbl6r50Yw9GKYZRjU_UjcyIRbrGM
I think we’d be at #4…make an “opt-in” feature to your website, or to your presentation, if being made online, if you don’t have one already. Like a “join our list” pop-up. And still a fan of this free qr code suggestion. I don’t recall where the free qr code is from but it’s a thing to do, and maybe hand out at the event on a 4×4 card.
1. Share your event with the media
3. Go live to promote your event
4. Dedicate pop-ups and landing pages
5. Market your event to your audience using email
-
Last comment of the night (I have the nerve to be at the beach with my kid, “vacationing”).
I found a list of opt-in plugin to be installed into wordpress. I honestly like #10 best – 10. Optin Hound
Reasons I like this best is you don’t need to integrate into any email marketing services to collect leads. Those who agree to opt in, their info will be saved directed to wordpress, and you can download the data as a google sheet or excel csv. file. I think that’s wonderful; as a tech, I honestly hate integrating into email software. That one extra step can go. Plus if you don’t have a email marketing subscription – you wouldn’t need to get one to use that Optin Hound. And I think this one is free, I’ll try it. Nevertheless, check the full article, and lets discuss your insight on the list and rather it’s something you’d consider implementing.
